A good example of...

"I am not a good American...I prefer to form my own opinions" - George Carlin

...why there are no longer young men and women knocking on your door selling encyclopedias to help pay their way through college.

Google feature of the day, 1/13/2018:

We don't need no stinkin' encyclopedias.

To all - I didn't mean to imply that it is a bad thing. To the contrary. I love the fact that I can find out, almost instantly, anything I want to know about...anything. I will say, I do miss the smell of my old set of Collier's from back yonder, though.

Patricia - I read both, electronic and paper. I still have my library card...and I still use it. We had Collier's and they were good, but a compromise...we couldn't afford Britanica.

I remember my daddy getting my kids the encyclopedia britannica and every year getting an update book for the year...I think thom still has it.

I guess they don't even sell Encarta anymore, do they? Seems that used to be included with every PC sold in the '90s.

(Yes, I am still alive! I badly injured my blog, though, and haven't had the patience or motivation to resuscitate it.)

intell - !!!!Eyegore...She's alive!!!! Just last week I thought about emailing you...just to see, mind you. Merely a coincidence? I think not.

Wikipedia pretty much kicked the crap out of Encarta back in computer ancient times. Do they even make it anymore?

OK, murdering your blog is not acceptable in polite bloggering society. We need all the voices we can muster these days. Anyway, I hope that's not your final word. Pretty please.

intell...yikes, you weren't kidding, I went looking and your blog isn't there. NO NO NO NO NO! This is just wrong! I have almost 12 years invested in following your blog. I even remember the first post I read...the one about the fish dispensing machine. Not one other blogger...NOT ONE...has ever written about that machine, that I know of. Have mercy
