My brother put me on to this beautiful report on NPR. I couldn't resist passing it on to you. It's an interview by NPR with Anna Deavere Smith...well, in their words:
"As the health care debate rages on, solo theater artist Anna Deavere Smith is bringing her own highly personal perspective to the table. Her new documentary play, Let Me Down Easy, has opened to rave reviews off-Broadway."
A note, the interview is 28 minutes long, if you don't have that kind of time, forward to about the 18 minute mark, or maybe a little before, for the last 10 minutes. It is a beautiful piece, by a beautiful human being, with which and with whom I am sure you will relate.

28 minutes?? 28 MINUTES!!!!!
Jesus, I could die listening for the part that said I can live if they (they?) do (or don't) pass the bill.
28 Minutes. I could pick up a whore, bang 'er and put her back where I picked her up in that time. Just be out $30, no health care bennie. Well the Bennies, are a part but the care of her health is... oh maybe i have said too much.
never mind.
Punch---this is the best of you, right here in this comment, the sensitive you...the poor man's champion...the defender of the less than fortunate.
Does the $30 include the shots? Afterwards, that is.
She was on Bill Moyers last night -- http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/11132009/watch.html
(Sorry Punch, it runs about an hour...but it's free.)
28 MINUTES!!! 28 minutes!!! Just shoot her and get it over with. That's NRA insurance and it only costs $.30.
I am so moved by this outpouring of sensitivity....
and I do think the interview was worth watching...
thanks.
Great interview. She's remarkably talented and perceptive.
She is a beautiful human being & a great theatre artist. Thanks for the post. I just surfed on to your blog & I am glad I did. Ineteresting & fun stuff...& I like the look. The thing about the missing posts though... that is weird.
Best wishes from Portland. I will be back.
Ride the bull and lose a half kidney for a flat rate...sounds like a solution to me.
intell---thanks for the tip, I'll take a look. And you said the magic word for Skeeter aka Punch.
Mr. C---I swear, you and Punch are interchangeable. Have you guys been trading skeeter pills or some such?
Lou---Glad you enjoyed it.
Harlequin---obviously I agree :)
Stephen---Hey thanks for visiting AND commenting, I do like comments. Even more so when they are so kind. Please do come back!
w m---Well there’s bull and then there’s bull, of the political sort.
Took your advice, listened to the whole thing, excellent. I listen to Science Friday when I can, it sure was different subject matter for Ira Flatow to showcase. Well worth it.
ah... on a second try this post appeared!
alas! can't watch it... it should be on youtube, eh? it's filtered from Iran...
:(
Holte---Good. Thought you would appreciate it.
human---I am so sorry you can't pull up the video. I don't know if this will help, but it's on NPR (National Public Radio) and probably not on YouTube. Here is the address: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120387137

Only $30? Damn, is that the goin' rate these days, Punch? No wonder business is so damn slow...I'm overchargin'...a LOT!
{note to all: I'm also leavin' this same comment over at Punch's...jusssssst in case he don't come back again}
Haven't even looked at comments. Been hanging my head all day embarrassed by my crass remark to your beautiful sensitive post. My bad. Punch made me do it.
MDJ---Hey, it's called the free enterprise system. It's what made Amurica what it is, ya know.
Mr. C---Don't make too much of it man. Truly, I haven't had a second thought about it...the remark, I mean. And in a somewhat related vein, intelliwench's remark on your Hefner post, made me realize that we (the two of us) really do bash Punch a lot. Albeit, he deserves it, but...
Now wait a minute. Yes, he DESERVES it. But, like I said, I still love him, as long as he keeps his distance.
C---I am not touching that line with a pole...no matter the length.
It wouldn't play for me. I think it's because I'm Canadian.
jadedj...
you know, here in Iran we have lots of problems regarding the speed of the internet and also filtering... i couldn't watch it... but i watched another thing... a very caring soul who took his time to share something with me...
:)
thanks for the link and your kindness
kate---apparently you may not be too far off. See human being's comment below.
human---well, I am glad you got something from it...and you are way too kind.
