NOTICE-THIS IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TONGUE-IN-CHEEK BLOG.
Well my friends if you remember this... you can say you've seen greatness (yes, I really mean it...every kid of my generation knows this dude). Picked this up from the L.A. Times:
Art Clokey, the creator of the whimsical clay figure Gumby, died in his sleep Friday at his home in Los Osos, Calif., after battling repeated bladder infections, his son Joseph said. He was 88.
Clokey and his wife, Ruth, invented Gumby in the early 1950s at their Covina home shortly after Art had finished film school at USC. After a successful debut on "The Howdy Doody Show," Gumby soon became the star of its own hit television show, "The Adventures of Gumby," the first to use clay animation on television.
You may not have known his name, but I'll bet you recognize him.

I knew Gumby and Popkey. Now I know who created him. They did 223 episodes over 35 years. That's a lot of stop-motiopn-photography. It seemed there always was a lesson to be learned from each episode. Gee, I'm old.
Chimp---Gee you're right...on all counts.
I showed this to my six year old. She wants to see more. Loved Gumby.
If I can not remember Gumby, does that then make me young? Or, older, and getting senile. LOL
RZ---Nay, nay. It means that you probably have incredibly good taste.
LOL.
I thought they were swell :-) There were Gumby and Pokey toys about the house when I was a boy, and when my boys were small, too.
RIP Art, and may we see reruns of Gumby and Pokey :o)
Gumby got by me. Looks like the guy had a good life.
I feel very sad that this is the first I've heard or seen of Gumby.
Doug---worth a fortune probably.
Bucko---Methinks they are not "electronic" enough for today.
Punch---Damn fool. Can you not see that the thing had no genitals? What kind of life was that?
mo---Yet another life enrichment post here on B of Q.
Even I remember Gumby! :) Thanks for the memories, JJ !
Sunny---glad to hear you're hail and hearty. Sorry I've not time right now to respond to your other comments. Later :o)
The guy died from eating Gumby. The damned thing was made in China.
Gumby though is still found at your local Wal-Mart store.
C---They're not edible? Damn.
wm---Probably full of lead.
That is a GummY bear you are thinkin' 'bout. Whole other thing.
Punch---why do you hate freedom loving people? Y?
thanks for the obit on Gumby's dad; I actually had a little Gumby of my own.... it was a difficult toy to lose... kept turning up no matter where I ( or my parents !! ) left it.
Harlequin---Spooky, isn't it.
memory banks...thanks for bringing me back!
