Lighter Note

NOTICE-THIS IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TONGUE-IN-CHEEK BLOG.

Make of this what you will. Both of my daughters can sing this song, since I started singing it to them when they were able to comprehend music.

What a fun dad, not many kids these days will be familiar with the Guthries.

Actually I had a pickle for lunch yesterday. Not to bad, even liked it.

I haven't heard that in so many years but oddly enough every word came pack as Arlo sang it.

Holte---Yep, only the ancient ones.

Punch---A pickle for a pickle, eh?

wm---Ah ha, you're one of those old dads Holte was talking about.

Love that song.

We had a CD of Pete and Arlo singing kids' songs which I always took along on vacations for playing in the rent car so Velvet would learn how to howl along with the stereo in the car. Nothing better.

Inch by Inch, Row by Row.

The only part of it I could remember was... I don't want a pickle, only want to ride on my motorcycle. The kids started adding their own verses, until they learned On top of spaghetti all covered with cheese!

Haven't heard that song in a long time. A friend of mine had that album a long time ago.

PE---we old stoners got to stick together.

Mr. C---Same here, we end it with, won't you come along and ride with me. Love his long version and the tale of being out of control coming down that mountain. Pure classic story telling.

Tom---I don't want to think about how much time has passed since I first heard that song...in a galaxy far away, a long time ago.

Heh heh. I first heard that in English class (along with Alice's Restaurant), sometime pre-1972. I still sing a few bars every now and then.

jadedj said...

Doug---I doubt you would have heard it in a U.S. English class. Could be wrong. Don't think so though.

This is the song that taught me the correct pronunciation of "motorsickle". I never pronounced it the old way again.

Another good one for the kids to learn is "Rocky Raccoon."

Or anything from the sound track to "Hair." :-)

jadedj said...

intell---we are currently working on the vocals of Beethoven's Ninth, the final movement. We could throw Hair in there also I suppose.

jadedj said...

Chimp---You say sickle, I say sighcle, let's call the whole thing off (sorry, best I could come up with sans enough coffee, at this point).

My god, he was young. I'm pretty old, but I never heard this song before.
Congrats, you've got 100 followers. xo

jadedj said...

diane---Circa 1969, I think. I'm not sure where I heard it, as I didn't really have any of his albums. I think a friend of my introduced me to it some "smokey, stokie" night.

Oh yeah, so I do. Jennifer I think. Let's hear it for Jennifer folks! A hundred thanks Jennifer.

Dude, it was totally me.

jadedj said...

Oops. I assumed...wait, you were already following, right?...que pasa? Ok, let's hear it for diane folks...200 times.

"I came into town,
I jumped off my bike,
the bike went around
the corner by itself,
went up on the stand by itself,
turned itself off.

I walked over to my friend.
He was standin' there eatin' pickles.
I said "Hi, what's happenin'?"
He looked at me in the eye and
said "Nothin'"

jadedj said...

Punch---What the hell are you talking about man? You don't have a bike. Can't attest to the pickle, however.

Punch said...

My Pickle ain't fickle, knows when it wants to be eaten.

jadedj said...

Punch---They were right...you are a disgusting little man.
