What was true in ancient Greece, is still true. The moral of the story must be if want to find a honest man/woman don't be looking in the halls of power.
I believe Doug meant Capital... with an "a" although both are correct. One the building one the place, but be that as it were, Diogenes has been looking for a damned long time now.
I heard that in Texas the definition of an honest politician is one that once he is bought, stays bought. By that definition all members of the Republic Party are honest.
Altho I think it was LBJ that said that if you can't take their money, drink their whiskey, smoke their cigars and vote against them, you ain't a politician.
In 2008, Barack Obama went to Delaware to capture an honest politician using a gun that runs on hope and change. He caught an unidentified creature, thought to be the elusive honest politician. These reports were debunked when it was discovered that he had actually just captured Joe Biden.
The closest I can think of, today, as an honest politican is Ron Paul.
C---Yes, I know what he meant, but we must humor our northern friends, so I changed it for him. See when the shooting starts, we may need to go live with them.
Kulkuri---I'm thinking Obama could take a few lessons from LBJ.
Diane---And took no prisoners.
Tom---Too much ouzo?
Chimp---An honest politican? Now there's a dichotomy of terms. Now, if we are looking for a sincere politican...maybe possible.
J & C, take notes: When Capitol is capitalized, it refers to the building in the picture. To further confuse the issue, the Capitol of the U.S. is in the capital city of Washington, DC. The state house of, say, Nebraska, is the capitol building (no capital) in Lincoln, the state capital.
intell---so this has to do with the big letter, little letter thingy? Please clear this up, as I need to give this information to my little one ASAP...she is studying this in K school (big K, that is).
BTW---I have to wash my hair on Thursday.
Punch---J for jerk, as subject matter? Or do you mean it should be jadedJ, or Jadedj, or jj, or, P, Just go away?
BTW---Do not, DO NOT, mention the comma word to intell.
Yes, that lot likely would have mugged him for the Lantern. What inspired this, by the way? That &*^$( who objected multiple times to extending unemployment? Or was it the health care discussion?
Or was it perhaps the past decade or so, because that's the part that has kicked the stuffing out of my ability to hope, and left it bruised, but hanging in there...barely.
I was alphabetizing books the other day (yes, I lead a thrilling life, thank you for noticing) and came across a book I've had forever, about the history of mythology, and how it developed as a way of recording political history, that the various myths are symbols of political happenings, etc. etc.
Strange class...but suddenly I cannot help but wonder if there is actually validity to that. Whoever thought up Diogenes most certainly knew a politician or two.
L of s---Paragraph two pretty much covers it. Plus I have had a spot in my heart for Diogenes since college, which was almost as long ago as he has been looking for an honest man. I admire Diogenes because he continues to search even though his is an impossible quest, never to be obtained...particularly in this fucked up place.
Nice note and information from your thrillingness about mythology. Most myths, methinks have some basis of truth to them.

Same thing I think every time I go looking for a Democrat....
I know I'm just a Canadian and all, but don't you mean the U.S. Capitol...?
intell---Quit looking.
Doug---yes, well, and I bet you think you can beat us at hockey also.

Hotle---One would think Diogenes would know that by now.

I hated LBJ, he was pushy and manipulative, but that's a great quote.
@Mr. Charleston: thanks for clearing that up for us.
LOL. But what did Diogenes expect?

There will be a test on Thursday.
I love it when intelli talks dirty like that there.
What about the capital J wasted on subjects like myself? Or did I leave out a comma?
Punch, you should capitalize on any attention you can get.

intell---Har, har, har.
It's just like I wrote, J. There's big letters and then you have to watch your O's and A's, too.
Get thee to a dictionary :-)
intell---I am tired...just tired. Can I do the dictionary thing another time?
All of you go sit in the corner. Except for Punch, who's obviously in a coma over commas. (Small "c", big pain.)
Look for the one that gets totally slapped down and there on the ground you'd find the honest one.
Mr. C---Big "C"...bigger pain.
Oops, Sorry walking man. I can think of a few I would like to slap...but they ain't honest.
