A matter of civil responsibility...nothing more

I got this directly from The Swash Zone, posted by Octopus. It needs repeating and spreading widely. Basically, there is no real need for comment. This is a drive to get the people at FOX to take responsibility for the rabble rousing rhetoric of Glenn Beck, who is possibly the most dangerous man in America today.

Read the article...read the links, and join the effort if you feel so disposed.

After the shooting rampage in Tucson that left six people dead and thirteen injured, including Congresswoman Giffords, Fox News President Roger Ailes appealed for civility: “I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually. You don’t have to do it with bombast.

Weeks after Tucson, nothing has changed. If anything, Fox News has turned up the volume on partisan hate speech. Fevered hysteria and conspiratorial fear mongering on national television are not harmless.

How quickly we forget the lessons of history. The bogeymen of 1930s anti-Semitism that morphed into the bogeymen of 1950s McCarthyism has morphed again into the mainstreaming of Glenn Beck Militia Theater. The message is clear: Glenn Beck wants to extort your silence, and anyone who refuses to capitulate will be targeted and stalked:

Glenn Beck, Self-Appointed "Progressive Hunter"
The poisoned atmosphere unleashed by Glenn Beck and Fox News means any citizen - Democrat, Centrist, or Republican - can be slandered in public and targeted for persecution. Beck pitches his messages at unhinged misfits who are most likely to act on impulse, and events have shown that violent rhetoric leads to violent acts. There is no plausible deniability that can remove this blood from Beck’s hands:

Murders, shooting sprees, domestic terrorism, private citizens hiding in fear, infamous intimidations and provocations broadcast on national television - all linked to Glenn Beck - enough is enough! When toxic television threatens public safety, it concerns everyone. Even prominent Republicans are becoming alarmed:

Former Bush speechwriter David Frum:

Former Bush speechwriter Peter Wehner:

National correspondent for The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg:

It is time to pull the plug on Glenn Beck and serve notice to Fox News that partisan hate speech has no place in a free society. The strongest message you can send is to vote your pocketbook. Write letters to Fox News advertisers; tell them you will no longer patronize their products and services; and keep boycotting sponsors of Fox News until these outrageous partisan witch-hunts have stopped. Removing Glenn Beck from the airwaves will save lives.

There were 30,000 people in Madison WI yesterday. where was beck he could have kicked some ass and taken names. They were all union supporters.

I want to be on his list, really I do. But the bastard won't come to Detroit because he's afraid that we go for head shots and his bullet proof vest would do him no good.

I'd rip this off but I went after the Federal Government today.

Punch, congratulations, you've learned your lesson well from Mr. Beck... raise a hypothetical question and dare someone to prove you wrong. Or was that Ready Ronnie?

    Mr. C----OK

    Punch---On your mark...get ready...

MRMacrum---You're probably dead on with that assessment!

    Punch---Go!

    Punch---You lost me here.

wm---Hell, might as well get them all.

    Mr. C---Well, is he?

jadedj: I've already posted this at Squatlo-Rant and hope more rip it and post it on their own sites. I don't fear Beck as a political adversary, but do have fears for the ignorant and gullible he influences to do harm.

Don't be surprised if you get visited by a certain troll for having posted this. Most of us have had that "pleasure" since this started.

But wait a minute! Stop and think of what this would mean to Glenn Beck's poor listeners if their master got taken off the air. These poor pitiful neck-droolers have absolutely no life whatsoever besides staring at the TV and grunting and gurgling to Glenn Beck.

If this gets taken away from them, they'll have to go back to their previous hobbies: pulling the wings off of flies, watching paint dry, assaulting children and old ladies...

    jadedj said...

squatlo---I can't disagree with that, for that is my concern as well. And that is his danger, his batshit influence.

Trolls are who delete buttons are made for. Fuck em.

Tom---You left out inbreeding and bingo.

would it be ugly of me to wish that someone would take him out?

    jadedj said...

YD G---I don't know. Problem is, that is what HE wishes of us. So, let's just see if we can get him kicked off the air. Then we aren't in his mindset. We are clean.

Consider this a hypothetical possibility. Suppose Fox News starts to perceive Beck as a liability. As the letter points out, suppose Fox News is concerned about one more crazed lunatic incident bringing in the FCC or the DOJ, or perhaps lawsuits from injured victims and the adverse publicity that would forever sully their reputation.

If you buy any of these assumptions, then Glenn Beck is vulnerable, and Fox News is more likely to pull the plug. Then right-wingers can hardly blame liberals since it would be Fox News divesting itself of a major liability.

Octopus---Those are good points, and well taken.
