AN OPEN LETTER TO ROGER AILES AT FAUX NEWS

As you read in my last post, Octopus over at The Swash Zone is organizing a petition drive to discourage sponsors from supporting Glenn Beck's madness over at Faux News.

In addition, he has composed this letter to the Chairman and CEO at Fox in an effort to have him pull the plug on Beck for us.

If you agree with this, fell free to copy and paste to your own site, then print out a copy of the actual letter and send it to Mr. Ailes.

Roger Ailes
Chairman and CEO, Fox News Channel
News Corporation
1211 Avenue of the Americas
New York, New York 10036

(Date)
Dear Mr. Ailes:

After the shooting rampage in Tucson that left six people dead and thirteen injured, you offered this appeal for civility: “I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually. You don’t have to do it with bombast.”

Weeks after Tucson, nothing has changed. Glenn Beck has turned up the volume on partisan hate speech. The poisoned atmosphere unleashed by Glenn Beck means any citizen - Democrat, Independent, or Republican - can be defamed in public and targeted for persecution. Beck’s messages provoke unstable persons to act on impulse, and events have shown that violent rhetoric leads to violent acts:

Prison Term for Man Who Threatened Speaker Pelosi:
Mother of Accused Man Blames Fox News

Renowned Professor Terrorized After Glenn Beck Broadcasts

League of Women Voters Targeted by Glenn Beck Fans

Two California Highway Patrolmen Shot by Glenn Beck Fan

Three Pittsburgh Policemen Killed by Glenn Beck Follower

There is no plausible deniability that can wipe the blood off Beck’s hands or absolve the Fox News Channel of responsibility for reckless incitement. Shooting sprees, murder, malicious defamations and infamous provocations … these have no place in a free society. When toxic television threatens public safety, all citizens of all persuasions have grounds for alarm.

Glenn Beck has crossed boundaries that should never be crossed. It is time to pull the plug on the Glenn Beck Show before more people are terrorized, injured and killed.

Sincerely yours,
(name and signature)

YD G---The irritant factor alone makes it worth the effort. Think of yourself as a mosquito.

Truth is not only violated by falsehood; it may be equally outraged by silence.

Punch said...

Oh credit Henri Frederic Amiel

Punch said...

See that is the outrage part about silence.

Thanks, but I have some words of my own that I'll send on to Mr. Ailes.

I don't even feel like I'm of the same species as Beck...whenever I catch glimpses of any of the Faux News broadcasts (which sadly happens all too often in my house), I envision a pack of hyenas.

And that's probably doing a grave injustice to hyenas.

Mr. Charleston said...

The worst thing that can happen to Beck and his ilk is to ignore him.

jadedj said...

Punch---Well said.

intell---I realize why you are catching the glimpses...and I would be tempted to sabotage the T.V., personally.

Hyenas have thick skins, methinks.

Mr. C---As stated above, I disagree.

jadedj said...

Mr. C---I just realized that I made that statement in the post prior to this one.

Nice to see you back, Jaded.

Mr. C is right: he needs to be ignored. I actually didn't know anything about him until one of my students began preaching the Gospel according to Glenn Beck at me. He wanted me to accommpany him to that crazy thing in Washington last summer. I didn't know anything about Beck--I had heard the name--really, I live in a shoe, but when I heard that Sarah Palin was aboard, I declined. Then this student told me that I was in danger of getting brainwashed by radical leftist professors. When I asked him his sources for all his beliefs, he claimed manifestos. I listed books like Second Treatise, Communist Manifesto, The Federalist Papers. He had read one book by Beck and a bunch of shit online.

He isn't atypical of Beck's followers. They don't read or think; they just want to believe. They haven't read the Constitution that they think they are defending. My student didn't realize that the original Common Sense came from Thomas Paine, a...DEIST or is that an ATHEIST??? He thought Beck had written it instead of plagiarizing it. Scary.

Susan said...

That was another thing: Beck is all up in that holy God crap, and he copied a book from a man accused of Atheism. Jefferson was also accused of atheism. The Tea Partiers would have been spit out of George Washington's mouth--dumbasses.

Susan said...

I just read your other post. I will help you, because I worry about the same thing; our country is creeping toward Fascism, and I am frightened of these nutjobs.

Punch said...

Ok ok this could get be thrown out

Punch said...

but (ahem) Susan,

Punch said...

(ahem) do you wanna??

Punch said...

you have such a clear grasp of the jazz goin' down that I must say to you

Right on
Spot on.
Keep on
so on and so forth.

jadedj said...

Tricia---Likewise.

Susan---Unfortunately, those who need to ignore him are media. It is the media that gives him credibility, not those of us who point and shout. If we don't shout, he wins. We need to keep shouting. No matter what others do, I will continue to scream about this cretin...and Sarah, as well.

Thanks...be afraid...and shout.

Punch---Let it out, my friend...let it out.

see i changed my avatar, just like you said.

great work, these past two posts. i am not as inundated by beck in the great white north here in canada, although he does manage to ooze across the airwaves.... and we likely have our own brand of crazies like beck here as well.
i'm convinced that beck and his ilk have no conscience, and can absolutely live with the executions of people who are " not like us" (that would be the "us" that claims beck as one of their own)... this is as scary and self-assured a brand of true believer as it gets.

Punch---I still can't see it. Perhaps an optician is in your future?

Harlequin---I apologize that the worst of us oozes over the border. Believe me, he does not speak for all of us. But, I know you know that.

Octopus---Very clever. I did not have the foresight to do the same. Damn.
