"I am not a good American...I prefer to form my own opinions" - George Carlin
This is the only YouTube video I could find in which the sound wasn't distorted. Forget about the graphics and listen to the song. Rickie Lee Jones, circa 1981, or so...Danny's All-Star Joint.

"Night Train" from that same album is an awesome cut, too! Glad someone else remembers Rickie Lee and these songs!
I love Rickie Lee Jones..have seveal 'cassettes' by her..and that is one of my favorite songs by her.
Ricky Lee Jones, circa 1981
Great music, but in 1981 I started high school and it sucked.
Squatlo---I like almost every thing she did. And...she's still out there kicking it. In fact, I think she's gotten better.
YD G---I knew there was something about you that said, a good egg, that one.
Beach Bum---My oldest daughter is in high school. A constant reminder of why I do not want to be reincarnated...teen angst, being the major drawback.
Glad you like Ricky, though.
This came out before I was even born. I think I was born in the wrong era.
Our first born was on his way in 1981. There were no stations playing this song or any like it. There isn't now, either. We had/have pop, easy listening and country. Thankfully we now have Youtube and internet radio so I can hear all the stuff I missed.
Love her.
the Ol'Buzzard
Perfect song for a lazy Sunday. Thanks. Now, I'm heading back to listen again.
Downstairs at Danny's All Star Joint
They got a juke box that goes doyt-doyt
A finger-snappin' deluxe
Make your be-bop bap
And your R&B hep-scat
You can't break the rules until you know how to play the game
But if you just want to have a little fun
You can mention my name
Keep your feet in the street
Your toes in the lawn
But keep your business in your pocket
This is it were it belongs
Come on Cecil, take a dollar
Come on Cecil, take a tip
Do yourself a favor If she offers it - take it
But honey, don't give it away if he don't appreciate it.
If you can’t get laid to this song, Hang it up.
I’m mean Honey.
Don’t give it away if he don’t appreciate it.
Good song. I never heard many of Rickie Lee Jones' songs; "Chuckie's in love" is all I can think of off hand. I never understood why she was always being compared to Tom Waits. But this song definitely lives up to those comparisons. And that's the ultimate compliment.
Me too. Like it that is.
Mo---There was a lot of that going on in those days. In fact, many of the "wrongies" had to get stuffed back in. I was fortunate...they never caught up with me, and anyway, my mom probably would have shot someone to avoid having me in there again.
Doug---Nah...come on. You're pulling my leg, right? Seriously, I can't imagine that. That's not nice.
Ol'B---And she loves you Ol'
boomer---Glad I could add to your relaxiness (sic).
Punch---You de man!
Tom---"the Duchess of Coolsville" says it for me. She was romantically involved with Waits and also collaborated with him on several projects, including a film (I think). For me, Chuckie's in love was not one of her better pieces, but it had pop appeal. Jazz is her forte, imo.
Mr. C---Anybody named Charleston would, wouldn't he. Glad you do, bro.
I have to give thanks to my friend shady lane who brought her to my attention why back then..she said 'you'll love her' and she was right.
YD G---A good friend with good taste :-)
To all---I realized reading Tom Harper's comment that I misspelled her first name. It's Rickie, not Ricky, which, I suppose, makes me persnickety.
Actually I would say just a bad speller.
Punch---Okay, then say it.
Ok, Bad Speller.
Punch---Didn't you already say that?
No, the first time was the future tense. The second the present.
Bad Speller is now the past tense.
Punch---Guy goes into his shrink's office, says, "I'm a wigwam...I'm a tepee...I'm a wigwam...I'm a tepee". Doctor says, "Hold it!" "You're two tents."
Vada Boom!
Uncle.
thanks for this great cut. marvelous. and, like most good lyrical work, timeless.
Harlequin---In my mind's eye, I am seeing a smile on your face. This is good :)
snappy tune there! never heard of her till now, and I rather enjoyed it, thanks.
Bella---I am glad and I am going to put you down on the like it side of the chart :-)
