A Dentist's Friend

As you wander through life friend,
Whatever be your goal,
Keep your eye upon the donut,
and not upon the hole.

A sign in a donut shop my grandfather used to take me to. The sign is embedded in my brain and every time I see a contemporary so-called donut, I think of it, and my grandfather.

One not only got to eat massive amounts of sugar, but one could also watch them dip the donut batter into the deep fry fat to make the donuts. Couldn't have been better to a kid than if they had served chocolate, sugar drenched, pig fat. Somewhat the same thing upon reflection.

Ah, those were the days.

Ah to be a kid again.
My granddad took me fishing, and we caught one. We took it home and my grandmother cooked it up for us. About one good bite for a child, but she cooked it like it was mahi mahi from Hawaii.
The next day, my grand dad went back to the park where we fished, he came back to the house and told me we had caught the fish under the no fishing sign. (true story)
Grandmother laughed a good chuckle. She was something else. I miss her even now.

When I go to Tim Hortons, I get all four of my major food groups: sugar, salt, fat and caffeine.

I love donuts, but the holes are the healthiest part.

My mom used to make donuts like that and they were SO good. Nice remembrance of your granddad. Hugs.

Punch---that's a nice story.

Doug---ah, but that 24 (?) speed bike takes care of it.

X---oh yeah, homemade ones...yummy in my tummy.

Love that old homey wisdom. Eat a donut for me, I haven't had one in years.

My mom used to make them. I was just saying last night that we should do it for the kids.
