Putting it in perspective...

Are you having problems trying to visualize the oil "spill" (which it ain't...oil company fuck-up would be more apropos, I think) in the Gulf of Mexico? Then check out this site which puts the size of the "spill" to date, in relation to where you live: http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/

I picked this up at coyoteprime-runningcauseicantfly.blogspot.com

We need to know the extent of, and should not forget what these money grubbing bastards have done.

I meant it a couple of posts ago, when I said I will not let it go, or be forgotten.

ADDENDUM: Originally I meant to add this factoid at the end of this post:

If BP CEO Tony Hayward decides to walk away from the BP Gulf mess, he will get a severence package of $16,100,000.00...and we assume, his life back.

Good for you.
They must be exposed, and they must pay dearly. This is a long way from being over.

RZ---This needs to spread. Here in Nebraska, people are not tuned into the magnitude of this. It isn't their fault, they just can't relate to the Gulf of Mexico...and, they LOVE their SUVs. Tragic, in the least.

The consequences beyond oil in the water, and dead sea life, are epoch catastrophic. Terrorist threats to the world pales in comparison to this.

Tao Dao Man said...

This is a terrorist threat to the whole planet. It appears that this did not happen due to negligence, rather pure ass cost cutting greed.
Nebraska and the rest of the nation will feel the after effects of this for decades. The whole GOM might even have to be evacuated.

Punch said...

The full magnitude is yet to be known. This is bad. A lot of talkin' heads don't seem to understand. I stand and look out at the Gulf and wonder how long. How Long.

Sue said...

today repub Joe Scarborough said his family and friends in the Gulf region are praising Obama for his decisions thus far. All the while GOP thugs are bashing Obama, while sympathizing with BP. I believe the rethugs days are numbered, it gets worse and worse for them every time they open their mouths. The oil gusher and the GOP are a threat to the whole planet...

How depressing. Magnifies my meh. But I'm going to share the link w/others because it gives the mess a whole different perspective.

Everyone---Thunderstorm coming up, and I am off to bed. I'll respond manana to your comments...provided we're not floating down the street at that point (8" of rain in the last 4 days is what I am referring to).

Sunny said...

Yeah, and besides killing people, they have ruined people's livlihoods, and left them helpless and some are hopeless.... and getting sick too.

Besides that, the whole dang eco-system is ruined, the land and the Gulf and all will never be the same.

I keep telling anyone, this is NOT a spill !
Hugs, Sunny

It is an EFFEN GUSHER.
The only people that are calling it a spill is rethugs, wannabe dems, BP, and the MSM.

RZ---Believe me, I did not mean to accent the "accident" part. It was a deliberate throw of the dice, to save money on the part of BP. They had pre-knowledge that the probability of this happening was high. Their own engineers were quite concerned about this particular rig (and others of it's type). The execs blew them off (no fucking pun intended). I don't know what is more infuriating...the fact that it is so intense, or that the bottom-line took precedence over good judgement. And then, after it happened, their main concern was to take the bullshit road of lesser solutions, in consideration of THE BOTTOM-LINE. God I am mad!

Evacuation is a definite possibility. But there are some other scenarios that are not only worse, but apocalyptic. For example, the danger of Methane Gas. http://www.helium.com/items/1864136-how-the-ultimate-bp-gulf-disaster-could-kill-millions?page=1

Punch---Which re-enforces my thinking that this major catastrophe needs to be understood by those who are not directly affected by it. I am so sorry bro.

Sue---And what sane person could possibly sympathize with BP? What the deuce is there to sympathize with.

intell---I know you are already in a funk, but thanks for doing that. It is depressing to say the least.

Sunny---Exactly.

RZ---I think you are as pissed as I am.

J: No harm.
There is more news coming out today. Not only is the oil volcano out of control. The process to stop it, and clean it is out of control. The Congress Critters, and the President should not be allowed to go on their annual fourth of July break. The GOM will not be celebrating for a very long time.

The putz' at BP were drivin' their remote underwater vehicle around today and bumped into the cap that had reduced the flow.
They managed to bring it back to full flow.
My grand chrildren can do as good a job.
Maybe better.

A $16 million severance package for Tony Hayward; just great. There's supposed to be an ancient curse that goes something like "may you make a lot of money and spend it all on doctor bills."

jadedj said...

Punch---It's like watching the Three Stooges, isn't it. Except the Three Stooges only wreaked havoc on one another.

jadedj said...

Tom---And be covered in petroleum jelly for the rest of your life.

yellowdoggranny said...

I've seen that and it's scary..and that should be against the law for him to walk away with that money..

jadedj said...

YDG---Technically, his arrangements with his company are his business, but that does not make it any less obscene under the circumstances. Of course, he hasn't resigned either. I just like to point this kind of shit out.

I live in West Centrral Florida and the Spill goes clear across the state!!! It's only a matter of time before we also get totally screwed by BP and our government.

Chimp said...

jaded, me borrow this post and "paint" on my blog. Tank U.

jadedj said...

Chimp---I don't know if you caught Punch's first comment above, but he lives just a little south of you, and stands on the beach and wonders, how long, how long.

Even if I weren't a displaced Floridian, I would find this bitterly depressing, not to mention infuriating.

jadedj said...

Chimp---missed that last comment in passing. Absolutely, that was the idea, pass it on.

There is no end to these fuckers.
America is in a free for all into the abyss.

RZ---I love this statement..."...and the effort has required BP to push drilling technology beyond its proven limits.”

We are so fucked.

Thanks (I think) for the link.

Tao Dao Man said...

LOL Ya, that is a classic.
Didn't they do the same thing on Wall St.?
Aren't we doing the same thing in Afghanistan?

jadedj said...

RZ---We are an insane bunch of people, no question about it left. Irony of ironies...terrorists didn't do us in...we did us in. I belive it was Pogo who said..."I has seen the enemy, and they is us." Yep, that's who it was.

Chimp said...

Actually, I work in the hotel business on the beach in the Tampa Bay area. So this is scary for us all.

jadedj said...

Chimp---I didn't know that. I worked for several years in Miami as an Art Director for a special event company. Most of our events took place in hotels. Small world.

I am sure it is, and I can see it affecting your business...no question about it.

I'm too depressed to comment. Or even think about it. I live on the St. Johns River and I have watched the earth die through that river my entire life. We're friggin doomed boys. Our kids don't have a chance.

jadedj said...

C---As you know, I'm an old St. Johns River rat myself, and although I no longer live there, I share your pain. Also, I don't mean to add to it with these posts. I have a sadness that has overcome me the past few weeks that I can't shake. But I want the entire world to know what is happening here...and who is responsible.

With you all the way JJ. I literally have nightmares about it. We've seen this coming our entire lives but there seems to be no way to stop, or even slow down, the greed.

CHECK THIS SITE OUT.

PLEASE PASS IT ALONG.
I just posted their top story.
Corporate death penalty.=revoke BP's Corporate charter.

PENolan said...

I've been taking a few days away from Blogland, and just popped in here.
I'm sure you remember the link I sent you a while back to punk patriot. The bigger green guys picked up on his revoke BPs charter efforts.

I say the death penalty for BP. If the Supreme Court declared corporations can buy elections just like people, they can get the death penalty just like people. If revoking the corporate charter is The Chair, fire it up.

jadedj said...

RZ---Thanks for the link. I will definitely pass it on.

Tricia---I do remember, and I would love to pull the switch. They like platitudes such as, drill baby drill...how about, burn, baby, burn!

jadedj said...

Oops, Mr. C---And the think that frosts me is, the stupid greedy bastards have to live on the planet too. WTF is that all about...get more money, blow your ass up also?

Jaliya said...

there's no way that any ethical person can let this go or forget about it. This mess is too big ... literally a permanent stain on the planet. I am so distressed about it ...

This whole generation of takers (see Daniel Quinn's *Ishmael*) needs to go the way of the dinosaurs. They are ruinous, callous characters.

I can't stop thinking about Cormac McCarthy's *The Road* and James Howard Kunstler's *A World Made by Hand". Both of these stories are entirely plausible ... both written by brilliant seers.

Another great book, one that I first read back in the 80s, is called *Momo* -- it's written by Michael Ende, and centers on a young girl who saves the world from "The men in grey." It's a weird, surrealistic story ... and more timely than ever when our world is being trashed by men and women in grey -- Perhaps when all's said and done, the final dividing line amongst humans will be the ones in grey ... and everyone else.

I checked out the "If this was my home" site ... My entire city (population close to 200,000) would be drowned.

jadedj said...

Jaliya---Of course the problem is, those who ought to read these books...won't...ever. I have long ago given up even trying to convert anyone to any idea that I agree with. I am ranting, and screaming here, but mostly for those who agree already, and for myself.

I think you are correct, maybe we are in for a reckoning.

You population is slightly less than my city, and it extends into two other states...way into.

I am not sleeping to well these days. Probably stupid, but I can't, while this is going on. There is a little boy part of me that thinks, something is going to save the situation. The adult knows better. Methinks, we are screwed.
