Hate crime against a local lesbian lady

I just found out about this incident which happened in the early morning hours Monday. I am appalled. All other things considered, I never thought of this town where I live (Lincoln, NE) as being intolerant. Guess I was wrong.

Read the story...I warn you, it is horrifying.

It certainly makes me want to string some sorry asswipes up by the balls.

JadedJ, this is beyond the pale. I would caution anyone from getting overly emotional about this until all of the facts are known, because it just sounds too horrible to be true.

Hate to say it, but this makes my suspicion radar go off like a fire alarm.

In one way I hope what she's reporting is accurate and true, because I'd hate to think someone would fabricate such a horror story for publicity. The story has the earmarks of a falsified report. For the sake of your community and my opinion of Lincoln I hope that's the case. If what she claims to have endured is proven true, you have some psychopaths on the loose in your community.

Please keep us posted on this story, and forgive my cynical ass for not buying into it without more information.

Hate can happen anywhere, and does.

squatlo---Certainly that is a possibility, and I almost didn't post this because of it. But I find it really difficult to believe that someone would go to the extent of cutting themselves (anti-gay slogans on the body) so badly that it requires hospitalization.

The story this morning is that the police are not ruling that out. On the other hand, many people who know her, swear that she would never have concocted such a horrendous tale.

The FBI is investigating, and I hope they can get to the truth...and then string them up by their balls.

D S W S---Yes, unfortunately you are correct...but, even given my cynicism, I find it hard to admit that I might live among such evilness.

If this is true, these type of actions are often fueled by religious fanaticism. The groups that organized in Maine to oppose (and defeated) the Maine Equal Marriage Amendment were vicious Bible quoting fanatics. Like you, I was shocked that there were people in our state with so much vitriol and hatred.

This incident is horrifying, like you said, but these things can and do happen everywhere. Supposedly liberal Seattle and San Francisco aren't immune to hate crimes like this.

Ol'B---I agree with your assessment, but at the same time, I see this particular act as one of male ego. Egos that simply can't accept the fact that a woman could prefer other women instead of them. Or, it could be that they were born just goddamn mean.

Tom---It is almost as if we, as a society, have learned nothing the last 50 years or so. Pretty disheartening.

YD G---And getting uglier.

It's now Thursday and I have not seen any follow up on this. Were the perps found?

I am saddened by this and by those who think it might be a trick or a publicity stunt or something. I am mainly sad because that crossed my mind also.

LeftLeaningLady---Nada. Nothing in the paper. Of course, I only read the online version and I suppose it could be more prominent in the hard copy.

It is interesting that I originally heard the story from my wife who heard it at work. So I went online looking for it, it was buried deeply. I really had to go out of my way to find it. I don't know what that means, but they sure aren't giving it much space.

deeply distressing on a lot of levels-- hate seems to be so much easier than tolerant and respectful open-mindedness.

jadedj said...

Harlequin---And still no new word on the case. The local ragsheet seems to be ignoring it.

Do you think they found a Chick Fil A bag at the scene of the crime?

jadedj said...

Punch---Oh man.

What a horrible thing to happen to this poor woman! Makes me sad we live in such a hate filled world!

jadedj said...

Suzy8---And still no arrests.

UPDATE:

I am sad to say that Squatlo was correct in his assessment of the original story. The lady was arrested on Friday and charged with filing a false police report. The FBI, which was called in by the local PD, concluded that her wounds could only have been self-inflicted. There was no mention of a confession.

It sure as hell does no favor to the gay community here. What the deuce was she thinking?
