I Love A Mystery

And this one has nothing to do with Sherlock...it is of a literary ilk.

My brother the joker, sent this one to me. Can you identify the author of the following lines, which are from the same book...I think...well...maybe?

One rule: NO GOOGLING!

Maybe I'll give you the answer tomorrow. BTW, it is only fair to acknowledge the originator of this game...the author, Jincy Willet...and that is the only clue I'm giving you Sap Suckers of Etherness.

* The mustard-pot of penance.
* The cobbled shoe of humility.
* The furred cat of the Solicitors and Attorneys.
* The Teeth-chatter or Gum-didder of Lubberly Lusks.
* The Ape’s Paternoster.
* The Fat Belly of the Presidents.
* The Merciless Cormorant, by Hoxinidno the Jew.

OK, they are obscure...so sue me, in the Courts of Waters and Musk Odors.

My guess would be . . . Benjamin Franklin?

Frankly, Ben doesn't give a damn. Good guess, though...but, not him. Believe me, I had to google it, I was so far off.

willis---Off the mark. Good try, though. Mark Twain was one of my first thoughts, as well.

I googled it and I'm only vaguely familiar with the author's name (and I have a degree in English and a degree in Writing).

That said, let us settle at The Kettle of Magnanimity over a Trivet of good Thoughts. For though I may have the Sauciness of Country-Stewards and you are often the Bridle-champer of the Advocates, you are a good man.

We can chat and catch up until The Prickle of Wine and The Spur of Cheese encourage us to return to our respective homes.

(Sorry, some of the other lines around the ones you quoted were just begging to be recycled.)

It all sounds like stuff my dad would've said.

I confess to Googling, too, and am not surprised at the source. But my familiarity of the author is only through his work being the subject of a character's study in a novel by the late great Canadian author, Robertson Davies. That is more than anyone cares about, I know, but the coffee is kickin' in. (I just love Mandazoid's answer!)

Mr. C---Brilliant! But wrong.

Punch---I believe you have the wrong Twatface in mind.

Mandazoid---I know...quite obscure, but it was the Prickle of Wine that made me do it. I apologize.

intell---I have learned several new things by posting this. I'm just not quite sure what they are.

Was the author the obscure writer Ronald Reagan? Sounds like he was writing about people in Washington.

jadedj said...

Chimp---No. The give away clue is, the author of these quotes wrote in complete sentences.

Homer Simpson?

Susan said...

Oh, complete sentences--my bad.

Tom Harper said...

I don't have a clue for any of those quotes. I'm suing.

jadedj said...

Susan---It's a toss-up between Homer Simpson and William Shakespeare.

Susan---Oh, yeah...that's right. Dang.

Tom---Have your lawyer contact my lawyers...Dewey, Cheatem & Howe

Kinky Friedman?

YD G---Kinky was my first choice as well. But, alas, Google says differently. Stayed tuned, I am about to reveal the answer in a new post.
